How does it all work?

Clever-You brings you all the components needed to build your smart home your way.

All devices use Zigbee to communicate, which requires a Zigbee hub ($35).

Zigbee integrates with a number of different applications and we recommend Tuya. All how to guides on this site are based on the Tuya app.

Why Zigbee

Zigbee Logo

Zigbee is a wireless communication protocol aimed at low-power, low-data-rate applications, particularly within the Internet of Things (IoT) first established in 2005.

This translates directly to significantly longer battery life for your sensors, door locks, and other battery-powered smart devices – often lasting months or even years on a single charge.

Zigbee's mesh network allows devices to act as repeaters, extending the system's range. Furthermore, the standard's commitment to interoperability between different manufacturers' devices means you're not locked into a single ecosystem, providing greater flexibility and access to a vast marketplace of compatible devices and features.

Finally, Zigbee operates on a different radio frequency than the often-crowded Wi-Fi bands, leading to less interference and more reliable communication between your smart devices. While Wi-Fi is excellent for tasks requiring high bandwidth like streaming video, Zigbee excels at providing a stable and energy-efficient communication backbone for a multitude of low-power smart home devices.

Tuya/Smart Life App

Tuya provide a mobile app to manage your devices.

This allows you remote control them, link switches together, manage lighting schedules, use sensors to trigger actions and integrate with other apps, such as SmartThings, to manage devices on different platforms.

Beyond the app itself Tuya support a large open platform for developers to create custom apps using the Zigbee standards.
